Heart Cells Foundation enjoyed a special sneak peek screening of Maggie Contreras’ ‘Maestra’ – a powerful documentary centred around the only competition in the world for female orchestra conductors.

The screening was followed by a Q&A with Maestra Zoe Zeniodi, moderated by Co-Executive Producer Charity Wakefield and provoked a heartfelt and robust conversation around the unique profession of conducting and the unique challenges facing those women choosing to pursue a career historically reserved for men.

The film has gone on to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, as well as screen at Sheffield Doc Fest and DC/DOX Fest (in Washington DC).

A note from the film makers

We were thrilled to meet supporters at this very special early screening of our film Maestra and we know the event started beautiful conversations, which is of course the greater purpose of the film itself. Team Maestra wishes to bring the film to as many communities as possible, so that they too can participate in these beautiful and important conversations.

In the wake of our premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, we are being invited to other festivals around the globe – which is wonderful! It is our hope to take Maestra to as many communities as possible. In short, if you are moved to support our film further do spread the word, post about us on social media. We are @maestramovie on Instagram & Twitter.

With our enormous gratitude,

Maggie Contreras (Director) & Team Maestra
